Description

Make this snowman from a recycled Kool-Aid container to accent your home this winter!

Materials and Supplies

Craft Supplies:

  • Empty Kool-Aid Container (cleaned and dried)
  • 1 pair googly eyes - 10 or 12 mm
  • Scrap of orange craft foam or felt
  • Holes punched from black craft foam
  • 14 ½ x 10 thin batting or Sparkle-tex (snow blanket)
  • Fleece 16 x 1 ½ for scarf; 6" x 14" for hat
  • 2 or 3 buttons
  • Small clear hair elastic or a strong piece of thread

Craft Instructions

  1. Wrap batting around container and glue seam being sure container is centered on the batting so there is an equal amount of batting above and below the container.
  2. Make 4 or 5 slits in the batting that extends over the top of container. Glue each piece down one by one.
  3. Repeat step 2 with the bottom of the container.
  4. Tie the scarf around the neck of container and cut slits in end to make fringe.
  5. Fold the 6" x 14" piece of fleece in half - short ends together - and sew or hot glue seam. Turn right side out.  Wrap a small clear elastic around one of the open ends or gather and tie with thread. This forms the top of the hat. Cut slits in top just to where the elastic is. (This makes it look like a pompom.) Turn up bottom of hat to form the cuff and place on snowman.
  6. Cut a carrot shape out of the orange craft foam and make several small black lines on it. Glue eyes and carrot nose onto snowman. With circles that have been punched out of craft foam make a mouth.
  7. Glue small buttons on the front of the snowman under the scarf or use more of the craft foam circles as buttons.

Note: Our snowman was made from a standard size Kool-Aid container. If you use the larger container just cut a bigger piece of batting.
